Effective immediately, face masks are optional for Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) customers and employees, both on board vehicles and in TARTA buildings.
In accordance with a federal court ruling, the mask mandate put in place by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for travelers on public transportation is no longer in effect. The mandate, which had applied to travelers on planes, trains, buses, and in rideshares, had recently been extended to May 3.
“We are continuing to monitor this evolving situation and will keep customers informed every step of the way,” TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski said. “We want to thank our team members for their continued commitment to safety, and our customer for their patience as we navigate this rapidly shifting landscape.”
Front-door boarding, which had been restricted, will now resume on all TARTA fixed-route buses. Rides on TARTA vehicles remain zero-fare through July 31.
While TARTA is not requiring masks at this time, the CDC continues to recommend that people wear them in indoor public transportation settings, and any TARTA employee or customer is welcome to wear one if they so choose. Operators will still carry complimentary masks on board vehicles for customers who want them.
About TARTA TARTA provides a vital link in the Toledo metro area to jobs, education, health care and other destinations. It enables everyone in our community to have access to transportation regardless of their age, race, physical ability or economic background. TARTA is underway with exploring and introducing new initiatives and service options that will enhance convenience and customer experience while moving our region into the future of public transit.
