Bus Rapid Transit

A Transit Vision Shaped by Community Input

Following a comprehensive evaluation of corridor alternatives, TARTA and its project partners have identified a Locally Preferred Alternative for Bus Rapid Transit service. The proposed route and station locations balance community priorities, mobility needs, and long-term regional development goals. Take a look at the recommended route and conceptual station renderings in the visualization and map below.

Explore the Public Survey and Findings

Hundreds of residents, workers, and TARTA riders shared their thoughts and pinpointed suggestions through the online Bus Rapid Transit survey in early 2026. While the survey is now closed, the questions and public comments remain available to view here.

The input received provided valuable insight into travel needs, station preferences, and community priorities, helping guide the study team's recommendations for the proposed corridor.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Moves Toledo Forward

TARTA is conducting a Rapid Transit Corridor Study to see where a high-performance transit corridor could deliver frequent, safe, reliable service and support economic growth. The study will identify improvements to enhance mobility, reduce travel times, and connect residents to jobs, education, healthcare, and key destinations. The study will end in the selection of a locally preferred alternative that supports improved access to opportunities, promotes investment, and provides a foundation for sustainable regional growth.

What is Rapid Transit?

Rapid Transit (sometimes called “Bus Rapid Transit” or “BRT”) is a premium bus service that blends high frequency, reliability, and the comfort of rail systems with the adaptability of conventional buses. As a transformative addition to our transportation network, a Rapid Transit corridor is designed for friction-free service and that allows passengers to go further faster.

Beyond mobility, Rapid Transit corridors often strengthen local communities and enhance safety and pedestrian access in the areas they serve.  TARTA is partnering with the City of Toledo’s Vision Zero program and the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) funding to plan and create a transit corridor that saves lives.

Why is TARTA conducting a Rapid Transit Corridor Study?

With the passage of the sales tax in 2021, TARTA has positioned itself to reimagine and expand the public transit system to better serve the population of the Toledo and Lucas County area. TARTA launched the TARTA Next Plan. It took a comprehensive look at TARTA’s network. The Rapid Transit Corridor Study is an important step in helping TARTA achieve its goals to:

  • Expand Regional Connectivity
  • Improve Mobility for All
  • Focus Economic Development
  • Enhance Regional Quality of Life

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the BRT study to date.
