TARTA, Toledo Mayor, NAACP Team With Library to Honor Rosa Parks
To celebrate Rosa Parks this Saturday, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), the Toledo Chapter of the NAACP, and the Toledo Lucas County Public Library are bringing the story of the mother of the civil rights movement to families.
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski, and representatives of the Toledo NAACP will take TARTA on Saturday, February 3 to four branches of the Library, where they will read a story about the life and legacy of Rosa Parks to children and their caregivers at 11:30 a.m.
Each trip will leave from the TARTA Transit Hub (612 N. Huron Street):
- Mayor Kapszukiewicz will take Route 20 at 10:30 a.m. to the Sanger Branch Library (3030 Central Avenue)
- TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski will visit the Oregon Branch Library (3340 Dustin Road) after a trip on Route 2, which leaves downtown at 10:30 a.m.
- A Toledo NAACP representative will leave the Hub at 11 a.m. on Route 5 to take part in story time at the Mott Branch Library (1010 Dorr Street)
- A Toledo NAACP representative will ride Route 19 at 11 a.m., traveling from the Hub to the Kent Branch Library (3101 Collingwood Boulevard)
It is so important for us to continue to draw on the lessons of Rosa Parks...Her lifetime of courage and activism made its mark not only on the transit industry, but on our nation. The Library has also been a wonderful community partner, so it makes sense to work with them to create what we hope will be a yearly event to recognize a civil rights icon.
Empowering people to make connections.
