TARTA Board of Trustees Re-elects President, Vice President

The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority’s (TARTA) Board of Trustees have capped one of the most active years in TARTA’s history by re-electing Sylvania representative Mary Morrison as president of the board and Toledo representative Kendra Smith as vice president.

There is so much excitement around TARTA right now, and I’m proud to serve once again...From taking fixed-route service to new destinations to putting a new on-demand service on the road, I am excited by and proud of TARTA’s recent accomplishments. Our CEO, Laura Koprowski, and her team are to be commended for accomplishing a series of strategic initiatives, validating the confidence placed in them by Lucas County voters who approved the sales tax to fund TARTA in 2021. TARTA has a duty to continue connecting customers to what matters most in their lives, and it’s our responsibility as a board to help guide those actions. It’s a responsibility that I and the other members of this board take very seriously. We are excited about the organization’s progress and future initiatives, and we look forward to what 2024 brings.

Mary Morrison - TARTA Board of Trustees President

Morrison has been an officer on TARTA’s board since December of 2020, serving as vice president before her election as president last December. Smith joined the board in February of 2021 and was also elected to the vice president post last December.

Morrison came to TARTA with an extensive background in management and community engagement. She held leadership posts at The University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University and The Toledo Hospital Foundation.

Smith is Vice President of Community Health at Bon Secours Mercy Health. She has also held leadership positions at ProMedica, Preferred Properties, Inc. of Ohio, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

When you look at thriving communities that are growing and investing in their residents and infrastructure, strong public transportation systems are a common thread among them...TARTA has played a crucial role in connecting people to jobs, medical appointments, entertainment, and other essential destinations, serving as a reliable transportation option to the people in our community who most need one or are curious how TARTA and public transit can play a role as they move around the region. It’s an honor to continue to serve on this board with so many community-minded public servants who share a commitment and drive to make sure everyone in our community can enjoy the great assets northwest Ohio has to offer.
