To celebrate Rosa Parks this Saturday, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), the Toledo Chapter of the NAACP, and the Toledo Lucas County Public Library are bringing the story of the mother of the civil rights movement to families.
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski, and representatives of the Toledo NAACP will take TARTA on Saturday, February 3 to four branches of the Library, where they will read a story about the life and legacy of Rosa Parks to children and their caregivers at 11:30 a.m.
Each trip will leave from the TARTA Transit Hub (612 N. Huron Street):
“It is so important for us to continue to draw on the lessons of Rosa Parks,” said Koprowski. “Her lifetime of courage and activism made its mark not only on the transit industry, but on our nation.
“The Library has also been a wonderful community partner, so it makes sense to work with them to create what we hope will be a yearly event to recognize a civil rights icon.”
