Your Voice In TARTA's Future: Take Our BRT Survey

With an eye on faster, more reliable and innovative service, TARTA is asking the public to weigh in on its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) study.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is designed to make bus service more frequent, reliable, and easier to use. TARTA leadership and a panel of community leaders have been studying BRT and possibilities during the past year, funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).

A survey that is live now and will be active through mid-March at https://brtsurvey.tarta.com invites the public to:

  • View a virtual reality video detailing a BRT experience
  • Answer questions on a proposed rapid transit corridor
  • Add their own suggestions by dropping a digital pin on a map anywhere inside of that corridor

This survey will help TARTA understand which routes and features would make the biggest difference to users of the system and be practical locally along high-usage corridors for public transit, such as Monroe Street. Elements of BRT in other systems have included:

  • Service every 15 minutes
  • Platform-level boarding for passengers with mobility challenges
  • Improved lighting and waiting areas at stops
  • Off-board fare payment

“Bus Rapid Transit is already working in communities across the country,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “It combines elements designed to boost capacity, reliability and frequency along highly-utilized transit lines, along with improving the customer experience.

“Many of the most positive changes at TARTA in recent years have come directly from ideas shared by the people who rely on our service and from the broader community. That’s why public input is so important as we explore Bus Rapid Transit and other service improvements. This is northwest Ohio’s mobility system, and we want to connect people and communities in ways that make sense here at home.”
