Nationally Recognized Transit Leader To Highlight TARTA's Community Update
For the third year in a row, TARTA's Community Update will welcome community leaders, customers and transit enthusiasts to the Glass City Center to hear updates on our mobility system. This year’s event will include a conversation with nationally recognized public transit innovator Inez Evans Benson.

Inez Evans Benson is the Deputy Transit and Rail Market Lead for WSP in the U.S. WSP is a leading global professional services firm. Prior to WSP, Evans Benson she served as President and CEO of IndyGo in Indianapolis, overseeing a fleet of 200 vehicles and a budget of more than $210 million. She shepherded efforts to bring Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and zero emission buses to IndyGo and introduced the agency’s first all-electric bus line.
“In her 30-year career in transit, Inez has demonstrated not only a talent for innovation, but a vision for knowing what transit agencies need to do to widen opportunities for the families who depend on them,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “Her efforts on IndyGo’s second Bus Rapid Transit route - the Purple Line project – helped pave the way for infrastructure and opportunity growth for an entire community, and the project served as a blueprint for similar projects around the nation.
“As TARTA considers how to best serve the community’s mobility needs five, 10 and 15 years from now, we are thrilled to welcome a trailblazer like Inez to discuss where our system is, and what it needs to move forward.”
Evans Benson has also held leadership positions at MARTA in the Atlanta area; the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA); the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority; Star Tran in Austin, Texas; Veolia Transportation in San Jose; MV Transportation in Fairfield, California. Her transit career journey also included managing TARTA’s paratransit services.
