TARTA, UT Welcome Expansion Of GoBus Service

Everything that makes Ohio a great place to live just got easier and less expensive to reach, thanks to an expansion into northwest Ohio by the Ohio Department of Transportation’s GoBus service.

TARTA is proud to provide its downtown transit hub as a stop for GoBus, a  city-to-city bus service that connects both rural areas and major cities with many of Ohio’s colleges and universities. Launched in 2010, the service nearly doubled in size when it expanded into Toledo and the rest of northwest Ohio in March of 2026.

The service was welcomed Wednesday, April 22 at a press conference at the University of Toledo, with guests including TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski, ODOT administrator Chuck Dyer, Lake Erie West Regional Council Program Manager Marissa Bechstein, and University of Toledo mascot Rocky.

“This is such a great service, and it demonstrates that ODOT understands and values what multi-modal systems can bring to the people of this state,” said Koprowski. “By expanding, GoBus is offering new opportunities for nondrivers and drivers alike to explore affordably, and is going to bring new visitors to Toledo as well. 

“Their focus on universities is going to be an attraction for students who want to go to (the University of Toledo) or (Bowling Green State University), and at $5-40 per ticket, we are removing barriers to students who just want to take advantage of educational opportunities. This has already been such a benefit to students in particular, but to all commuters statewide, and we’re happy to play a part in expanding this needed service.”

The deal gets even better for University of Toledo students, who for the first semester of next year will be able to take advantage of discounts that cut the price in half if their trip leaves from or arrives at UT’s Transit Center.

The new routes out of Toledo reach the Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati areas, with a number of stops in between at places where city-to-city bus service had previously been unavailable.
