To celebrate Rosa Parks Day on Saturday, February 4, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) and Toledo’s chapter of the NAACP are co-hosting an event designed to highlight the past and bright future of both the northwest Ohio region and transit.
TARTA and the Toledo chapter of the NAACP will conduct a press conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, at TARTA’s downtown Transit Hub (612 N. Huron Street). The program will include the unveiling of a display on the walls of the Hub paying tribute to Rosa Parks and her impact on equity in transit and society. There will also be a call to action to the community, inviting visitors to leave a note about what Rosa Parks means to them.
Scheduled speakers include:
“We must not sit in comfort in order to sit where we desire,” said Dr. Perryman, who is also a member of TARTA’s Board of Trustees.
The press conference will begin at 10 a.m. before attendees view the display at the Hub. At 11 a.m., they will be invited to board TARTA’s No. 5 bus for a trip to the African American Legacy Project (1326 Collingwood Blvd.). They will return to the Hub on the No. 5 at 12:03 p.m.
“It’s a privilege to partner with the NAACP and the African American Legacy project to deliver this important message,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “Rosa Parks’ push for justice didn’t begin or end with that day, and it’s so important for us draw inspiration from her courage as we continue to seek equality in our society today.”
