An avid reader and “do-it-yourselfer,” Janet McMickens loves to keep her mind working.
“I love learning,” she said.
When she isn’t doing tile work or mastering new technology, she’s on the road; a proud TARTA bus operator for nearly five years.
“I always thought it was exciting and I used to catch the bus when I was a child, so, I remember the bus drivers from way back and I remember how nice they were and how safety conscious they were,” she said.
The examples of the past have rubbed off on Janet. Passengers tout her professional and caring demeaner, her supervisors recognize her work ethic and her attendance is top-notch – not a day missed in the last three months. Janet is TARTA’s February Operator of the Month.
““I am flattered, touched and overwhelmed. Emotionally, it really touches my heart.”
She’s quick to credit her co-workers for helping her succeed.
“I love the fact that I am a part of an effective team,” she said. “Everyone here is good is in my book. Everyone is conscientious and they really look out for people.” And adds that the best part of the job are the people she meets and greets every day while behind the wheel.
“It’s always the people and how they respond to us, how they need us and how they share different things with us. We wouldn’t exist without [our riders].”
Janet is a graduate of Libbey High School and Bowling Green State University. She enjoys spending time with her family, which includes nine grandchildren who, admittedly, keep her very busy.
Great work, Janet! TARTA is grateful for you.
