(Toledo, Ohio) – TARTA is the recipient of a statewide award that recognizes safety within the organization.
The Division I SOAR Award from the Ohio Transit Risk Pool is given to transportation agencies in Ohio that have the lowest cost of risk among pool members that operate more than 3 million miles annually. TARTAâs cost of risk was $1.62 per 100 miles operated during the 2018 loss year.
âTARTA should be proud of this award as it is a tangible result of their efforts to provide a safe and efficient transit system to the citizens of their community,â Kenn Reed Ohio Transit Risk Poolâs director of risk management said.
This isnât the first time TARTA has been honored with this award. Since 2005, the Authority took home the title 8 times, including most recently.
âIt takes a team effort to achieve this success,â TARTA interim general manager and finance director, Stacey Clink said. âIt starts with our operators putting safety as a top priority and our training programs emphasizing safety. It ends with our claims staff being contentious stewards of public funds.â Clink adds, âeveryone should be very proud to receive this award.â
The Ohio Transit Risk Pool is a risk sharing/self-insurance pool establishing in 1994. Its membership is made up of eleven public transit agencies in the state. OTRP members operate approximately 28 million miles a year utilizing about 1200 vehicles and employing roughly 1500 people.
