With a new season comes a new route and new destinations for the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), which are highlighted by its first new route in years. The ribbon-cutting for new Route 33 took place at a press conference Monday, March 27 at TARTA’s Central Avenue garage.
Route 33 increases the frequency of service to the Uptown and Junction neighborhoods and also serves south Toledo with stops at the Walmart on Glendale Avenue, Toledo’s VA Clinic, and the University of Toledo Medical Center.
Other changes include the extension of TARTA’s Route 32, which will bring fixed route service to Spring Meadows Place shopping center for the first time.
Speakers included:
“Many aspects of our TARTA Next redesign and expansion are already on the road, and we are thrilled to take this next step making service more efficient with a new route touching Uptown, Junction and south Toledo,” Koprowski said. “We are also excited to bring fixed route service to Holland and Springfield Township for the first time.
“These are long overdue, data-driven improvements that will make our system more efficient, shorten wait times and help northwest Ohioans get where they need to faster. We look forward to continuing to find creative ways for TARTA to enhance the service we deliver to customers and make getting to and from work, the grocery store or the doctor the easiest part of the day for them.”
These changes are only the most recent service adjustments made as part of the TARTA Next redesign project, which involved close to two years of engagement with customers and community leaders to determine what northwest Ohio wanted from a transit agency. Sunday and holiday service were restored to TARTA’s schedule last spring, and its on-demand microtransit service – TARTA Flex – debuted in late January.
