Katie Howze is a product of Toledo in every way. For the last four years, the Scott High School graduate has been driving the streets of the Glass City as a proud member of the TARTA team.
Katie Howze – TARTA bus operator.
“It’s a pretty cool job. I like it. I like coming to work and smiling.”
Her positivity and dedication to her position is apparent and something that captured the attention of passengers and TARTA supervisors.
“[She’s] very energetic. Youth is really wonderful in our business and [young people] are just very enthusiastic about it,” superintendent of transportation, Tom Metzger said of Katie.
But her job performance goes beyond her energy. In fact, Katie has had perfect attendance for the last four months, she’s a one-year safe driving recipient and she’s been recognized by her passengers and supervisors as an exemplary member of the team making her the September Operator of the Month!
“I think it’s great! A lot of people say they haven’t had it yet and they’ve been here longer than me,” she said.
“Katie is loved by her passengers and is well-deserving of this,” Metzger added. “We’re very proud of Katie and excited for her career with us.”
While Katie doesn’t have a dedicated route, she boasts that she knows each one – a requirement of every TARTA operator. She describes her job as “unpredictable in a good way” and says her favorite part is the opportunity to “meet new people. Meeting somebody might get you somewhere in the future. It’s [about] the passengers you meet and the people.”
When Katie isn’t at work, she enjoys naps (who doesn’t?!) and reading books from the library.
Great job, Katie! We’re happy to have you on the TARTA team!
