The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) thanks U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur and others for securing a $13,833,483 grant for TARTA through the Department of Transportation and the American Rescue Plan.
The funds are designed to help TARTA replace revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our dedicated TARTA employees never stopped running our services,” said TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski. “We knew that our community and businesses were counting on us as essential infrastructure. As our community strives to recover economically, this grant award will allow TARTA to continue to meet the needs of our region and be the transit system that the Toledo Metro area deserves.
“On behalf of TARTA employees and the board of trustees, we applaud Sen. Brown and Rep. Kaptur for their understanding and support of the dignity of our employees, and the value of our mission, which is empowering people to make connections.”
TARTA has never stopped running during the pandemic and instituted enhanced safety measures, ensuring that those who depend on public transit can get to jobs, medical appointments, and other essential destinations. American Rescue Plan funds will help TARTA recover from short- and long-term impacts of the pandemic and can be used to offset costs related to staffing, recruitment, training, and health and safety measures.
