To honor the legacy and contributions of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, TARTA is teaming up with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, the Toledo branch of the NAACP and local leaders to bring her story to families.
A community read-along of Rosa Parks stories will take place at four Toledo Lucas County Public Library branches on Saturday, February 8.
At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the Mott, King Road, Heatherdowns and Holland branches will host family-oriented read-along events. Readers will include:
Ohio State Rep. Elgin Rogers
Ohio State Rep. Erika White
Ohio State Sen. Paula Hicks-Hudson
Toledo Chapter of the NAACP President Darlene Sweeney Newbern
WTVG news anchor James Starks
TARTA Trustee Dr. Tiffany Whitman
TARTA Trustee Heather Baker
TARTA CEO Laura Koprowski
The read-along will serve as both a celebration of Rosa Parks Day and an early kick-off to Ohio Loves Transit Week, which is facilitated by the Ohio Public Transit Association and takes place February 9-15. Also a part of Ohio Loves Transit week is a fare-free day on all TARTA services Tuesday, February 11.
