Let Us Help.
Whether its learning new routes, how to board the bus or learning bus etiquette, we’ve got you covered. Our Travel Training Program is a self-paced process where an individual, regardless of ability or age, has the opportunity to learn how to use TARTA’s services. Instructors assist trainees in overcoming fears and building confidence in riding independently. TARTA also has the ability to board individuals with wheelchairs.
Travel Training helps individuals with essential travel skills like:
- Reading bus schedules
- Learning routes training
- Planning trips
- Boarding and exiting buses
- Paying the fare
- Using a wheelchair lift
- Changing to another route
- Signaling the driver to stop or for assistance
- Knowing how to handle travel disruptions
- Learning about personal safety and stranger awareness
- Acquiring emergency skills
In addition to learning essential travel skills, more benefits include:
- Greater independence
- Money savings
- Increased sense of confidence and self-reliance
- Increased community involvement

TARTA offers Over the Phone Interpretation (OPI) on its information line (419-243-7433) for callers with limited English proficiency. OPI allows callers to speak with a TARTA Information Operator through a translator, regardless of the caller’s spoken language. Information Operators work with a coordinator for assistance in identifying each caller’s spoken language; including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese and Spanish.
All language assistance services for Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority programs and services, including paratransit functional assessments and paratransit eligibility appeals, are provided to the public at no charge.
