TARTA Celebration of Ohio Loves Transit was a success!
From February 7-14, 2021, Ohio public transit agencies and their partners will participate in Ohio Loves Transit – a statewide initiative highlighting how independent mobility is the strong economic engine of Ohio’s communities.
Hosted annually by the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA), Ohio Loves Transit provides an opportunity for the Toledo Region to showcase how public transit is necessary for our economy and enhances mobility for all, especially through access to jobs and by keeping our community moving during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community Forum: TARTA Taking You Places
To celebrate Ohio Loves Transit Week and share our new strategic direction with the region, TARTA hosted a virtual Community Forum on Feb. 10 from 5pm – 6pm. Our CEO Kimberly A. Dunham provided an update on our new plans, and the accomplishments achieved by Team TARTA in 2020. The program also included a keynote address by transit industry thought-leader and bestselling author Mark Aesch.

Transit drives Ohio’s economy, with national statistics showing that for every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic return.
Ohio’s transit systems provide a vital link to thousands of people with disabilities, by providing rides to work, job training programs, medical appointments and adult day care facilities.
Operations at TARTA supported 411 jobs, generated $17.2 million in payroll, and stimulated approximately $50.6 million in economic output in the service region in 2019.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, TARTA continued to move 3,000 Northwest Ohio residents every day to essential jobs, schools, medical appointments, and to meet their daily needs by visiting grocery stores and the pharmacies.
There has never been a more important time to come together to recognize the important role that public transit plays in our lives and to secure a bright future for our region. Join us in our celebration!
