TARTA fare change effective January 1.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will have the following fares as of January 1, 2006: Adults $1.00; transfers 10¢; tokens 90¢ (sold in rolls of 25 for $22.50); weekly pass $10.00; monthly pass $40.00; senior citizens and persons with disabilities (with Medicare card or TARTA reduced fare identification card) 50¢; TARPS $2.00.

For TARTA’s Call-A-Ride Service—Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford; Spencer Twp., Sylvania/Sylvania Twp., and Waterville only—Adults 60¢; Senior Citizens 30¢. Adult transfers 40¢; senior citizens and persons with disabilities transfers 10¢ (with Medicare card or TARTA reduced fare identification card).

TARTA has not had a fare adjustment since 1993.

December 8, 2005

TARTA moving lineups temporarily this Saturday.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority is cooperating with local public safety officials for this Saturday’s scheduled rally by a neo-Nazi group.

On December 10, 2005, TARTA will close its downtown stations—Government, Seagate, Promenade, and Park—from 7:40 a.m. to 6:10 p.m. TARTA “lineups” will be moved temporarily from Jackson Street to Jefferson Avenue (between Erie Street and Summit Street) during these hours.

All scheduled TARTA bus routes will be in service.

BLOCK 1:
Route #5, #31, #32, #34, #27 lineup on Jefferson between Erie and Huron

  • Inbound #5, #27 will follow regular route to Washington, Summit (L), Jefferson (L)

TARTA participating in “National Transit Tribute to Rosa Parks Day” December 1st.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority joins other transit agencies across the United States to pay tribute to Rosa Parks and the anniversary of the Montgomery bus boycott tomorrow. December 1, 2005, marks the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ act of defiance on a Montgomery, Alabama bus that changed the course of history.

TARTA General Manager James K. Gee will present a proclamation before the TARTA Board of Trustees Annual Meeting at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to be adopted that December 1, 2005 TARTA participates in National Transit Tribute to Rosa Parks Day.

To highlight the proclamation, a front seat on a newly-purchased Blue Bird bus—part of a group of ten—will be dedicated to honor Rosa Parks.

TARTA Holiday Trolley Sleigh adds The Andersons to the loop.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority is kicking off the busiest shopping season again this year with its Holiday Trolley Sleigh. As in previous years, the Trolley will serve Westgate Village Shopping Center (including Sears and Elder-Beerman), Westfield Franklin Park, and—new for this year—The Andersons on Talmadge Road.

The Holiday Trolley Sleigh starts Friday, November 25 and continues every Saturday and Sunday through December 24. The service is open to everyone and fare is just 25¢.

TARTA asks community to help “fill the bus” during the
2005 Scouting for Food drive at Westgate Village.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority TARTA is participating in the community-wide 2005 Scouting for Food drive benefitting the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.

A TARTA bus will be parked at Westgate Village Shopping Center—corner of Secor Road and Central Avenue—Friday, November 11, to collect donated food from the community 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. TARTA buses will have boxes on-board all day Friday to collect food donated from passengers as well.

2003 statistics reported by Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank member agencies:

  • Over 233,000 people in Northwest Ohio received emergency food assistance in 2003 up 157% since 2001.
  • 41% of those seeking food assistance were children totaling 91,484 children up from 71,269 in 2001.
  • The number of meals served in soup kitchens and shelters rose 150% in just two years to nearly 780,000 meals served. Shelters saw the largest increase from nearly 187,000 in 2001 to nearly 398,000 in 2003.
  • The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank distributed 3.2 million pounds of food and grocery products to over 330 member agencies in Northwest Ohio.

The Scouting for Food drive for the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank will benefit 330 agencies in 8 counties in Northwest Ohio including Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood and Williams. More information is available at toledofoodbank.org

NATURE OF PUBLIC HEARING
RE: Tariff Adjustment Effective January 1, 2006

1. Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) at the Main Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Library, 325 N. Michigan Ave., Toledo, Ohio, at 12:00 o’clock p.m. (EST) on Friday, November 18, 2005 for the purpose of affording an opportunity for interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to the proposed adjustment of tariffs of the Authority to be effective Sunday, January 1, 2006 and an explanation by TARTA management of the necessity of such tariff adjustment.

2. The proposed tariff adjustment to be effective on the above date is as follows:

ADULTS: Cash $1.00

TOKENS: 90¢ (sold in rolls of 25 for $22.50)

WEEKLY PASS: $10.00; unlimited use by any one person within week indicated on pass.

MONTHLY PASS: $40.00; unlimited use by any one person within month indicated on pass.

SENIOR CITIZENS: Cash 50¢; Medicare card or TARTA identification card required. Hours are not restricted.

SENIOR/DISABLED "PUNCH PASS": Cash $5.00 (10 rides--transfers included).

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES: Cash 50¢ (with Medicare card or TARTA reduced fare identification card).

TARPS: $2.00

CALL-A-RIDE (Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford; Spencer Twp., Sylvania/Sylvania Twp., and Waterville only): Adults 60¢; Senior Citizens 30¢. Adult transfers 40¢; senior citizens and persons with disabilities transfers 10¢ (with Medicare card or TARTA reduced fare identification card).

TRANSFERS: 10¢; Passengers may transfer to and from all TARTA lines upon payment of a 10¢ transfer charge. Transfer is full payment of fare. Whenever a passenger must ride on three lines to take the shortest route to his destination, he is not obliged to purchase two 10¢ transfers. Upon presenting his revenue transfer to the operator on the second line, he will be given a free transfer to the third line.

October is National Disability Awareness Month

TARTA offers free fare for seniors and disabled riders October 11.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will provide free service to individuals with disabilities and senior citizens over age 65 Tuesday, October 11, 2005 on all of its regularly scheduled routes (regular fare is 85 cents; 40 cents for seniors and persons with disabilities). Included is TARTA Call-A-Ride servicing Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford, Spencer Township, Sylvania/Sylvania Twp., and Waterville. TARTA's paratransit service, TARPS, will also be free that day.

TARTA and TARPS is providing free service to those eligible in conjunction with the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission Disability Awareness Day Expo at Southwyck Shopping Center, 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on the same day. The Expo is free and open to the public.

The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission helps persons with any type of disability--mental, physical or vision--find employment. More information about the Expo is available at either 1-800-352-4330 or 1-800-589-5611.

TARTA providing free bus passes for Katrina evacuees.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will provide one monthly bus pass —free of charge—to any eligible Hurricane Katrina Evacuees who have relocated to the TARTA service area.

Requests will be verified by the American Red Cross, Greater Toledo Area Chapter.

TARTA to continue shuttle service for playoffs.
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will provide shuttle service to all Mud Hens games at Fifth Third Field for the International League Governors’ Cup Playoffs: Friday, September 9, 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, September 10, 7:00 p.m. (if necessary); Sunday, September 11, 6:00 p.m. (if necessary).

TARTA will also have rides for the final Championship Round of the International League Governors’ Cup Playoffs (best of 5) at Fifth Third Field: Tuesday, September 13, 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, September 14, 6:30 p.m.

The service is available at thirteen Park & Ride locations for a direct round-trip ride to Fifth Third Field entrance—$1 per person or $2 for groups up to 5 people. No ticket is required to Park & Ride—return trips leave 20 minutes following the end of game time.

For Mud Hens fans using TARTA’s line service to Fifth Third Field, the price is 85¢ before home games—TARTA’s regular fare—with free return trips when riders show their ticket stub from that day’s home game.

Service changes begin on Sunday.
Beginning Sunday, August 28, 2005, the following routes have had schedule changes:
• Route 29W is now Waterville Call-A-Ride 419-724-6652
• Route 15: change in the street-by-street because of I-280 bridge construction
• Routes 19 & 22 will pull-in to Lourdes College via Convent Blvd.
• Route 10L is now Rossford Call-A-Ride 419-724-6658
• Routes 34R & 34K has incorporated Route 29M and 29W which no longer exist —Route 29X is not affected
• Route 34X—express from downtown to St. Luke’s Hospital—has been added.

The Toledo Division of Environmental Services has identified Wednesday, August 3, 2005 as an Ozone Action Day—this also means bus rides on all regularly-scheduled TARTA routes are free. Anytime an Ozone Action! Day is declared, passengers ride all TARTA in-service vehicles at no charge including TARTA’s Downtown Lunch Trolley and shuttles to Fifth Third Field for Mud Hens home games.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: SERVICE CHANGES
The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will hold a public hearing at 12:00 p.m. on August 1st, 2005 in the Authority's offices at 1127 West Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, for the purpose of presenting to the public, information on service changes necessitated by anticipated modifications of Route 34K, 29M, 2X, 15A, 15E, and 3, changes of Routes 10L, 34C, and 29W service, and new routes including a Call-A-Ride in Waterville and Rossford for Calendar Year 2005. The site is accessible to persons with mobility impairments, and interpretive services for the hearing-impaired will be available. Individuals wishing to comment in person on the proposed changes should be present.

Proposed Changes:
Route #2X Sylvania Express—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from Sylvania to downtown Toledo will be modified with new frequency times.
Route #3 North/South Crosstown—TARTA is proposing that the crosstown route during the weekday will be changing its southern destination from Levis Commons to Country Charm in Perrysburg to match the current weekend routing. During the weekend, route 3 will be improving its service from the current frequency of 125 minutes to 85 minutes.
Route #10L Perrysburg-Levis Commons—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from downtown Toledo downtown to Levis Commons in Perrysburg will be revised due to low ridership. This eliminated service will be replaced with the new Call-A-Ride service of Rossford which will operate in between downtown Toledo and Kroger in Perrysburg on Fremont Pike Road from Monday to Friday 6AM-8PM only. This route will be renamed as #10 Rossford Call-A-Ride.
Route #15A Summit/Alexis Meijer—TARTA is proposing that all trips inbound to make changes street-by-street from Summit to Buckeye to Ontario to Stickney to Huron due to the construction of I-280 Bridge—it will no longer go from Summit/Galena to Summit/Bush.
Route #15E Summit/Point Place-- TARTA is proposing that all trips inbound to make changes street-by-street from Summit to Buckeye to Ontario to Stickney to Huron due to the construction of I-280 Bridge—it will no longer go from Summit/Galena to Summit/Bush.
Route #19T Cherry/City of Sylvania—TARTA is proposing all trips to and from downtown Toledo to St. Joseph’s Park & Ride will be modified with a new destination at Flower Hospital (replacing St. Joseph’s), a connection to Lourdes College, and new times.
Route #22M Bancroft/City of Sylvania—TARTA is proposing all trips to and from downtown Toledo to St. Joseph’s Park & Ride will be modified with a new destination at Flower Hospital (replacing St. Joseph’s), a connection to Lourdes College, and new times.
Route #29M Maumee—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from St. Luke’s Hospital to downtown Toledo will be revised with new frequency times and a change in destination from St. Luke’s to Southwyck. This route will be renamed #34R Detroit-River/Southwyck.
Route #29W Waterville—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee to Waterville will be eliminated due to low ridership. This revised service will be replaced with the new Call-A-Ride service in Waterville which will operate in all of Waterville and west of Conant St. /Reynolds Rd. in Maumee from Monday to Friday 9AM to 6PM only. This route will be renamed as #29 Waterville Call-A-Ride.
Route #34C Detroit-Cass/Southwyck—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from downtown Toledo to Southwyck in Toledo be revised due to duplicate service which the current 34K already covers. This route will be renamed as #34R Detroit-River/Southwyck
Route #34K Detroit-Key/Southwyck—TARTA is proposing that all trips to and from downtown Toledo to Southwyck will be modified with new frequency times.
